Author of “How Do You Feel?”, Dr. Jessi Gold, shares her personal journey through burnout in medicine, breaking stigma and offering real solutions for healing and resilience in healthcare.
Burnout shouldn’t be an expected outcome in healthcare, yet it often feels inevitable. In this session, Dr. Jessi Gold, a practicing psychiatrist, will share her personal journey with burnout, beginning with her experiences as a trainee. She will define burnout, provide some statistics, and explore the hidden curriculum around mental health and emotions in medicine, as well as the stigma and fear that prevent healthcare workers from seeking help—including her own struggle with self-stigma. Finally, she will discuss practical solutions for individuals and teams, highlighting vulnerability, support, and finding meaning in work.
Gold's presentation - "Staying Human in Healthcare" - takes place in McKim Hall's Leonard Sandridge Auditorium and virtually (link below).
Lunch will be provided after the program, for the first 30 people in attendance.
Co-Sponsored by the UVA Compassionate Care Initiative and the UVA Center for Faculty Wellbeing and Development.
